Athens Ring Road is one of the largest infrastructure projects in Europe.
Athens Ring Road has been a milestone project for Athens, as it has improved the traffic flow in the urban area, connected the national and local road network of Attica, contributed to the development of several regional poles by facilitating transport to and from those poles, and also created the conditions for optimum performance of the new Athens International Airport at Spata, by offering high-level access.
The tollway extends along a distance of 65.2km. The concession contract was signed in 2001 and will end in 2024. The project was constructed in compliance with high standards in terms of quality and speed, providing an exceptional level of services.
AKTOR CONCESSIONS holds 59.2% in the Concessionaire.
This was probably the most challenging project constructed in Greece. It brought the region of Western Greece closer to the Peloponnese and, as a result, to Athens.
The project was also an innovation in the field of concessions. The type of transport, the location of the project, the relevant traffic loads and the associated sensitivity required the assumption of significant risks and, therefore, a thorough design. The project was funded by the European Investment Bank, which came as a confirmation of the successful response to the challenges by the companies participating in the contractor's scheme.
The total length of the bridge is 2.3km. The concession started in 2004 and will end in 2039.
AKTOR CONCESSIONS maintains an interest of 22% in the concession and 23.1% in the operation.
